A New Fan’s Guide To Tomorrow’s St. Louis CITY SC MLS Expansion Draft

November 10th is the new Christmas Eve, teams have dropped their protected lists and we now have an idea of who St. Louis CITY SC may take in tomorrow’s expansion draft.

I talked about CITY’s needs earlier this week but I would expect them to lean heavily on the crop of CBs available to them and maybe land another body for the top of the formation.

With that in mind, let’s dive through each team’s protected list and try to gain a sense of who we could see in St. Louis on opening day.

Charlotte FC

Charlotte know the process well, having landed Anton Walkes, Joseph Mora, and McKinze Gaines while flipping Tristan Blackmon and Ismael Tajouri-Shradi for 875k in GAM — a reminder that St. Louis may want to recoup some of the GAM they’ve spent this week to pick up international spots.

Looking at their list of unprotected players and you get the sense that this international heavy roster is inherently protected by the fact that St. Louis has also relied on international signings to build out their team. So, if St. Louis are to continue building through domestic MLS signings then the cupboard is bare in Charlotte. If Lutz is ok using another international spot, 27 year old Brazilian Andre Shinyashiki led Charlotte in Goals/90 last season and I think the value would be there to flip to another team as well.
