Consistency, Consistency, Consistency: How American Records Are Made

This week’s episode of the ‘Running Through It’ Podcast was a bit of an eye opener for me. I interviewed my good friend (and UMKC assistant distance coach) Chris Cornell, and the conversation quickly turned from consistency to another former UMKC runner Courtney Frerichs… Current American record holder Courtney Frerichs.

Consistency isn’t very controversial, it’s maybe the most lukewarm take in all of training theory — BUT it’s something that we often really struggle with. The idea is simple, mileage over time while doing all of the little things and exercising a little moderation along the way.

THAT is the Courtney Frerichs story in a nut shell.

Courtney wasn’t a state champion, she didn’t run for a top ranked school but she had talent and she had the will to do the little things right year after year after year. This is a story we can all find inspiration in, sure we don’t all have division 1 talent (I have fought long and hard with that reality) but we can learn that dedication to our craft can take us a long way.

Anyway’s all of that to say congrats to the newly minted American record holder, you are an inspiration to us all.
