Eastern Track League: Nashville
The Eastern Track League resumed action this past weekend by competing in the Music City Distance Classic, where 8 Events were scored making this the biggest weekend of ETL action to date. In a meet full of Olympians — a few athletes really stood out and a few teams took command of the ETL standings.
Men’s 800m
The perfect race to jump into as the 800-meter field impresses for the 2nd meet in a row. Wesley Vazquez — representing Puerto Rico — comes up .04 seconds shy of his personal best as he dominates the field to take home a huge win in 1:44.68 (1183) after a blistering 49.72 first 400 meters. This nets Vazquez both 2019 and 2020 standards, although he wasn’t the only one in the field. Adidas athlete Brandon McBride’s 52.93 was the fastest closing lap in the field and his 1:45.04 was also enough for both Olympic and World Championship qualifiers. District Track Club’s Edose Ibadin rounds out the top 3 finishing in 1:45.6 (1155) followed by Thomas Staines of Great Britain who — by achieving the 1:45.67 mark — makes it 4 athletes who achieved the EC in this race.
District Track Club’s Quamel Prince was the top returner with his 1:45.95 giving him 2301 IAAf points over the series, leading Atlanta Track Club’s Edward Kemboi (1:47.87) by 125 points.

Women’s 800m
The women’s 800 meters started out hot with a 58 second first lap, Sage Hurta then dominated the 2nd half of the race en route to a big personal best 2:00.99. Athing Mu was right behind her however with a 3 second PB of her own (2:01.38) while Agnes Abu rounds out the top 3 after running a 62-second last lap to finalize her spot, just beating out Alexa Afraimson who continues to have a stellar start to the season. It even more impressive when you consider that 1st place and 17th place were separated by only 3 seconds in total.
In ETL returner action Agnes Abu really dominates the standings with 2267 points, District Track Club’s Madeline Kopp is in 2nd place for the series with 2187 points, just holding off Atlanta Track Club’s Megan Malasarte for now who ends the night with 2108.

Men’s 3000m Steeplechase
Jermain Coleman puts Furman Elite firmly on the board with a 1119 point performance. Coleman comes agonizingly close to the 2019 WC Standard but there will be more chances for him to accomplish that feat. Coleman had to hold off a charging Max Stevens and Michael Jordan, who picked off Mark Parrish with a 64-second final lap.

Men’s 1500m
Rob Napolitano has really put his mark on the ETL so far; after coming up agonizingly short in Swathmore, he wins the 1500 meter by outlasting a charging Jake Edwards. Napolitano now has 2197 points in the series so far and leads District Track Club’s Jacob Dumford by just 19 points. The 1500 meter looks to be the most competitive event of the series so far… but there is still a lot of racing left this season. Overall 6 runners come within 1.5 seconds of the win — including Nick Harris who runs a big Personal Best. Ben Malone, Jeremy Hernandez, and Graham Crawford all score big points for Hoka NJNY.

Women’s 1500m
Olympians and winning the Women’s ETL 1500m… name a more iconic duo. Emma Coburn (1164pts) never relinquished the lead in this one as she comes up just .1 seconds shy of her 1500m personal best. It was a tight race as Helen Schlachtenhaufen, Cory Mcgee, Hoka NJNY’s Ce’aira Brown and Aisha Praught-Leer were all within 1 second of the lead. However, it was Coburn — coming down in distance from her traditional 3000m Steeplechase — who was able to outlast them all. Meanwhile Katrina Coogan was the fastest returner from the Swarthmore meeting, finishing in 4:13.38.
