Finding Consistency Through Change

Change is hard, whether that’s a new job or a new place or a new city or maybe all of the above. It’s been a tough and nerve racking transition — after all I’ve never lived outside of St. Louis… I’ve never spent more than a few weeks away from home and I spent a lot of time feeling homesick freshman year of college when I was a whole 15 minutes away from my parents.

So the inertia that is required for me to launch on a wholesale lifestyle change is ginormous but truth be told I’ve handled it a lot better than I would’ve imagined a few months ago. Moving to a new city, finding new runs, learning to live a new life — I just wanted to be able to keep my head above water.

Has this transition felt smoother because I’ve able to keep up with my mindfulness and running routine? Most likely — now I’m not saying I hit my mileage the past few weeks but I was able to hit the roads and run off some of my anxiety and nervousness while meditating on what needed to be done. Even though I need to build back to where I was a month ago — I’m not starting from ground zero.

This is big because it goes to show that you can always find time to fit your run/workout in if you really want it… although it may not be up to pr standards. Hit the road, be mindful of the task at hand and allow your mind to meditate on what you need to accomplish.

These are the keys to navigating your change and getting the most out of yourself in the process.

Happy Running,

Justin
