How You Can Learn From Olympians During COVID-19?

Earlier this week I talked with Lee Troop for an episode of ‘The Running Through It’ podcast. In the episode, we discussed the difficulties and challenges surrounding Tokyo being postponed to 2021 and how he has helped newly minted Olympic Qualifier Jake Riley prepare for the uncertainty surrounding his future.

I really wanted to pick Lee’s brain about how he is dealing with the uncertainty caused by this global pandemic… how an Olympian and coach to Olympians recommends dealing with what life is throwing at us right now. As athletes — and more importantly, human beings — we often find leadership in people who have been through situations of struggle and come out the other side equipped to hand out lessons from what they have observed themselves. That’s why I find Lee Troop extraordinary, not only is he open and transparent but he has been through a lot in his running and coaching career and has grown as a person through those difficulties.

Takeaways from the interview

“Sometimes we have these great performances but we don’t take time to enjoy it. We want to get onto the next event and don’t take the time to enjoy what just happened or what has brought us to the moment. […] Jake’s been on that
