Is Melchie Dumornay Coming To Your NWSL Team?
Reports out of Haiti, and France, today are saying that Melchie Dumornay — 19 year old Haitian superstar — has received 2 offers from NWSL clubs. The offer — according to her agent — is 4 years for a total of $1.5 million, not unreasonable given she scored twice in Reims recent game against ASJ Soyaux back in France.
The rumors are interesting given the talk last summer around negotiations with the Kansas City Current. The two sides couldn’t agree on a contract and the Current switched gears to Claire Lavogez who made an instant impact on their season. Given Sam Mewis’ injury setbacks, they could be looking at a hole in their expected 2023 lineup and should have the cap space to swing $375k against the cap.
The 2nd team could be someone that has already swung and missed in the Debinha sweepstakes. While Dumornay’s agent — and speculation from Loopnews in Haiti— has not named the teams involved, it should be relatively easy to triangulate who may have submitted an offer and I would expect to know that information within the next week.
It’s a developing story and I’ll update this piece if I uncover new information.
Dumornay has 3 goals in Ligue 1 so far this season but is best known for exploding onto the scene with Haiti in last year’s Concacaf League.
