Kansas City Current Are On Top Of The NWSL, And Amber Brooks’ Legendary Performance

Folks, the NWSL was good this week and the narratives are even better. This week saw the Kansas City Current take hold of 1st place while both Angel City FC and North Carolina Courage FC kept pace with Chicago for the final playoff spot — Angel City are actually ahead on points percentage so keep that in mind as we proceed.

Highlight — Amber Brooks

Amber Brooks gives a salute to the officiating.

Amber Brooks put in a legendary shift in Washington’s 4–3 win over San Diego. A wild game that saw the Center Back score twice in the first half, concede a penalty, and voice her displeasure at a corner kick decision — off a clearance that clearly didn’t go behind the net — that would lead directly to San Diego drawing even with the Spirit. This game had peak chaotic NWSL energy though as Ashley Hatch converted a 90' + 10' penalty to pull off a huge upset over the Wave. Ball don’t lie.

Highlight — Crystal Dunn Is Back

Crystal Dunn made her return to soccer in Portland’s 2–0 win over Orlando, and while the game was a pretty straight forward win for the Thorns, it is incredible to see Dunn on the field again, just 5 months after giving birth.
