Matt Powell Is Trolling His Way Into The Shoe Debate

Retail specialist Matt Powell waded his way in the great shoe debate today by throwing out the following tweet:

The problem with this assertion is that runners are already spending that en mass. The counts of Vaporflys and Hoka Carbon X shoes at CIM and Houston were at an all time high. Run specialty stores are finding it difficult to keep these $250 shoes in stock...

However, the problem appears to be in the difference between who you and I consider a recreational runner and who the world at large considers a recreational runner.

If Powell’s assertion is that athletes who aren’t interested in racing a marathon won’t spend $250 on racing shoes… then yeah, obviously. However, in running circles recreational simply means runners who aren’t chasing an OTQ. There’s room for interpretation and it appears to be the reason why everyone was fired up on my Twitter timeline this morning.
