Recapping Day 2 in Doha: Coleman Beats Gatlin, Hassan Wins A Crazy 10k, Nijel Amos Pulls Out.
If Day 1 was notable for the circumstances around the track (and on the roads), Day 2 in Doha is notable for the action left on it… mostly.
Nijel Amos Is Out Of The Competition
The event’s most dynamic runner has officially dropped out of the competition before stepping foot on the track. I’m surprised we haven’t seen more of this in 2019, with the ultimate goal being Tokyo, athletes should pull out if they’re worried about long term damage. That appears to be the case with Amos as he is struggling with an Achilles issue and feels 3 rounds of 800m might exacerbate the issue.
So who’s the favorite now? Brazier looked good in the opening round but the Men’s 800m is extremely deep and Rotich and Korir should both be reakky fit as well. We should have a better idea after tomorrow’s semi-finals but for now… it’s anyone’s race.
