Should We Ban New Shoe Technology?

In A Community Divided, How Will We React?

We are 1 week removed from the sport being turned on its head after Eliud Kipchoge made history being the first person to break the 2-hour barrier for 26.2 miles.

However, something interesting happened with Kipchoge’s run, the sport received the mainstream press that it has been desperately craving since Usain Bolt’s retirement — and not only press but outsiders drooling over Eliud’s performance.

I tell the story on this week’s podcast episode but I was able to temporarily convert a group of 15 drunk adults into running fans… if only for 2 hours.

However, to those that follow the sport, there were some concerning trends that cast a bit of a shadow over the weekend. We can accept that new footwear technology in the upgraded Next% shoes that Eliud Kipchoge was wearing could help his cause — but there was also an array of world-class runners pacing him on top of a laser-equipped pace…
