The momentum to postpone the Olympics has been building and today USATF joined other member organizations in calling on the USOPC to pressure the IOC ahead of next week’s executive meeting.

This comes on the heels of the IOC changing course and acknowledging that they are entertaining other possibilities for the Olympic games. Originally Japan and the IOC had been steadfast in their denial that anything would postpone the Olympics but now it would simply be terrible optics to go forward with games as planned.

Yesterday I released a video explaining the 3 main aspects the IOC needs to take seriously.

The takeaway is that the athletes don’t want this, the federations don’t want this, and the sponsors will come around soon. People around the world are sick and dying, and the USA has yet to feel the full of impact of COVID-19. Entire countries in Europe are in lockdown and can not feasibly train and there is no guarantee that Tokyo will even have the virus under control in time for the opening ceremony. So where does that leave the Olympic committee?
